THIS IS AN OLD
WEBPAGE Click here for our new website http://www.houseofcheese.co.uk ![]() CAPTAIN SMITH'S TITANIC Sadly this product was discontinued in June 2001 because of supply problems. Ever since reading Walter Lord's book 'A Night to Remember' I have been interested in the Titanic. I've read the books, seen the film and … eaten the cheese! Yes, cheese freaks and Titanic fans may like to look at our cheese listing for a new addition to our selection of over a hundred varieties! This is a mature rindless Staffordshire washed in beer from the Titanic Microbrewery at Burslem - it has a good strong flavour and, as someone has said, "goes down well"! This new cheese prompted me to scour my Titanic books to find out how much cheese was carried on the maiden voyage and what varieties were served to passengers. But, in a provisions list which included a thousand pounds of grapes, forty thousand eggs, and eight hundred bundles of fresh asparagus, there was no mention of cheese. I know that cheese was carried as it appears on the menus and I have seen a listing of the various types, which included, I believe, Edam, Roquefort, Cheshire and Gorgonzola. If anybody out there has any more information, please send me an e-mail on this! Jenny |
